「异性」这个词用英语怎么翻译？

单说「异性」，没法译，因为中文里本身就有歧义，「XXX of the opposite sex」？放到某些语境下显然不是那么回事。
语言本来就无法保证在这一层名找到一一对应的表达，如果能就不需要「翻译」这个工种，也不需要所谓「意译」了。有的词就是得放到一个完整的表述里才能（尽可能）准确转译，尤其是当语言对存在跨语系、语族情况时。
另外，某个语言里没有另一种语言的表述，不见得都能解释为文化现象。比如这个问题，我看不出能说明中国人含蓄或是别的什么。

“异性相吸” – the opposites attract.
“异性缘很好” – he’s good with the girls/she’s good with the boys.
“异性关系” – relationship.
“异性恋” – straight/heterosexual.
