景区的外文导览标识牌 怎么译是个非常有讲究的事情

2011年6月24日，杭州西湖成功入选世界文化遗产，越来越多的外国游客慕名而来。西湖边的不少景点，特别是西湖十景，采用的都是意译，老外们看得懂吗？前两天，有读者打电话给我们的杭报热线85109999说，这断桥残雪的翻译看起来有点像是“破桥残雪”，会不会译错了？

记者认真查询了一下，最有名的西湖十景，它们的英文翻译分别是：(见附表)

那老外们真的能理解吗？我们还是找老外自己来谈谈吧。

Susan来杭州没多久，丈夫在杭州的一家五星级酒店担任高管。Susan说，她对中文一窍不通，不过，西湖十景的翻译她大部分可以看懂。“可以让我联想到是哪个景点。”

另一位，Jerry Joseph在一家学校里担任外教，对于西湖十景的翻译，他觉得大多数都还可以，不过，有几个地方比较奇怪。比如曲院风荷的英文翻译中，有一个“Crooked”(弯曲)，这个词给他的第一感觉有点怪。这个词，本意是弯曲的意思，但是，现在不太用来形容弯曲。“多数是形容不太好的东西，比方说，骗子、罪犯。”Jerry Joseph建议，可以换个更合适的词。

花港观鱼的翻译也让Jerry Joseph觉得不太妥当。“Viewing Fish(观鱼)，感觉更像是鱼在看我们。”

在浙大做交换生的Ian Salvatore说自己第一次去西湖边玩时，看“Broken Bridge”(断桥)还是诧异了一下，因为觉得这桥“还挺结实的啊”。

Isaac Bender和Jakob Moeller是杭二中国际学院的学生，看了翻译后，他们表示，不太好理解。“雷峰塔我去过。”Jakob Moeller说，不过，Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow，他不是特别理解所表达的意思。

今年3月起，杭州西湖风景名胜区管委会(市园文局)展开了最大规模的导览标识牌全面普查和外文翻译勘误工作。先由浙江大学城市学院负责相关收集和整理，今年8月中旬，专家组将对景区内所有有异议的外文标识牌进行专业修改，最后所有信息将集成小册。

“现在景区中的外文标识还存在着不够统一、不够规范的问题。”杭州西湖风景名胜区管委会(市园文局)文物处的许建明说，在将景区内所有的外文标识进行收集后，再邀请专家进行讨论。“有可能参考根据北京、上海的经验，将景点外文标识都统一为拼音标识。”
