把「hotkey」翻译为「热键」是否不妥？

我无法从字面理解「热键」的意思。
翻译为「快捷键」是否更好？

无不妥。知乎上这种问题隔几天就冒出来一个，之前有「Check-in 翻译成签到合适么？」什么的。在这里不仅谈 hotkey，还为被大家认为「不妥」，但其实已被广泛接受的译法辩护一下。

Hotkey 翻译成「热键」，或许可能导致第一次看到这个词的用户无法直接推论出该按键的实际功能，但只要用户不是很健忘，这个学习过程一生只有一次。

译为「热键」的好处之一是省一个字，之二是紧扣 hot 和 key 两个词。补充，大陆计算机行业用语的翻译，有一个广泛存在的习惯 —— 汉语译文容易追溯为原文。这样做不仅在翻译 hotkey 一词时省事儿，更需要考虑的是，汉语里的科技知识体系几乎完全是源自英语世界。不仅现在有 hotkey 一词，将来还会有各种各样其他的概念。尽量确保汉语译文容易追溯为原文，能够方便将来出现新概念时不出现译法混乱，确保知识结构的良好对应、避免知识结构的混乱。

况且，无论一个词语、一个说法、一种句法多么「不妥」，等它得到了广泛的接受和应用，就成了正常（妥当）的语言。英语中大量的 -ize 结尾被「语法鹰派」诟病，但仍然大行其道，hospitalize 早就成了正常说法，居然又产生了 familiarize 这种词。汉语中大量生涩的表述也特别多，「提供」、「实施」这种可以搭配任何名词的万能动词用得越来越多。提供帮助（帮助！）、提供医疗（治疗！）、提供信息（介绍！）、提供资金（资助！）。还有实施剽窃、实施破解、实施侵犯、实施抓捕，还有，在知乎上提供答案，实施吐槽。

这种现象为什么那么多？省事儿，主要是省脑子。实际上，我敢不负责任地概括：人类语言的发展变化，最大的动力就是为了省事儿。

为了省事儿，sofa 译成了「沙发」而不是「弹簧海绵软椅」，tank 译成了「坦克」而不是「龟甲战车」。为了省事儿，不仅外语里产生的概念可以直译（甚至音译）过来，就连外语里的隐喻体系、联想习惯都可以零敲碎打地一点一点搬过来。

Hotkey 翻译成「热键」就包含了将 hot 的比喻义直接搬过来的成分。但其实把 hot 表示「快、直接」的意思（或者「因为用的人多，都捂热了」的意思），直接搬过来并入汉语的「热」字，「热键」也并不是第一个。Hotline 就被译成了「热线」而不是「直接找到话务员帮您解决问题的电话号码」。上面我用到了「语法鹰派」这个词。或许「语法鹰派」不是汉语词，但「鹰派」这个词，以及用鹰表示「强硬」的联想，完全是直接从 hawk 搬过来的。又想起了 come out of closet 为什么直译成了「出柜」，而不是「公开宣布自己是同性恋」。第一次听到「出柜」这个词，恐怕多少会觉得莫名其妙，但想象一下「一个小伙子为了不被捉奸在床，躲在男朋友家的衣柜里」的场景，就又觉得按原文直译（保留原文的联想）也称得上恰当，下次再读到「出柜」这个词，也自然而然地明白。

简而言之，hotkey 翻译成「热键」无不妥，原因如下：
1) 约定俗成，已成普遍用法（尽管这样追认合理性可能缺乏说服力）
2) 翻译省事儿，（删除：避免将来出现译文冲突和混乱）
3) 甲语言中词语的比喻义、联想习惯，通过翻译搬到乙语言是文化交流的自然现象

后来我又想了想，或许在几个相关的概念之间可以避免 2 的后半句所说的「译文冲突」，但通过 3 的确会造成与其他词语的比喻义的混乱。
至于「省事儿」，尽管我本人对汉语的新词、借词、外来词十分宽容，但还是鼓励任何做翻译的人，遇到需要引介到汉语的概念时，还是要推敲推敲比较好。至少把 tax haven 看走眼翻译成「避税天堂」的错误还是不要犯为妙啊。

我同意 @王童鹤 對 Hotkey 一詞的看法，我也認爲把 hotkey 翻譯爲熱鍵並無不妥。

但是，質疑既成標準的翻譯，亦無不妥。

不追求省事，亦無不妥——不僅無不妥，應該說還大有裨益，可健腦提神，幫助逆生長。

外国佬也有不理解「hotkey」的，所以有的软件里面会写作「shortcut」
比如Windows里面就叫做「shortcut key」

字面意思似乎也可以理解为：按得多的键自然容易发热，成了“热”键；正如打进电话多的线路很热门，所以成了“热”线。
可能也是因为有Hotline被译成“热线”在先，Hotkey就约定俗成地成为了“热键”。当然“快捷键”从字面意思和实际含义来讲可能更一致，不过不必纠结在翻译上，实际运用中已经被熟知的话，完全不影响使用。

国内的计算机名词普通存在形式化，要么是硬生生的直译，要么是过度精简的粗译，要么是IQ200也看不明白的翻译，港台的计算机名词相对来说，翻译得好一点
