英文版《廢都》翻譯完成 原文语句完整保留

今年，離陝西作家賈平凹完成他備受爭議的長篇小說《廢都》正好過去了20年。近日，這部曾引起廣泛關注的小說英文版翻譯完成。據悉，翻譯工作是由西北大學外國語學院副院長胡宗鋒和英國學者羅賓共同完成的，整個翻譯過程歷時三年，目前他們正為爭取小說英文版翻譯在年內出版而努力。另據胡宗鋒透露，對於英文版《廢都》的翻譯，從始至終，賈平凹隻提了一個要求：“小說英文版翻譯时，原文一句也不要刪。”

其實，在《廢都》小說英文版翻譯幾度出版的過程中，是否為“刪節版”一直都是不少讀者關心的問題，其原因則可以追溯到1993年。那一年，賈平凹的《廢都》完稿之后，最先在《十月》雜志連載。

一直以來，《廢都》都被形容為一本“世情小說”：它以有著悠久歷史的古城西安的當代生活為背景，以“閑散文人”庄之蝶與幾位女性的感情糾葛為線索，書法家龔靖元、畫家汪希眠及藝術家阮知非的起居生活穿插其間，宛如一幅上世紀八十年代的社會風俗畫。小說面世后，一方面以其對世俗生活的深入關注和精確臨摹而獲得贊譽，另一方面，卻又因為彌漫其中的頹廢思想，特別是性描寫而引起廣泛爭議。

雖然《廢都》在1997年就獲得了法國費米娜文學獎，但直到21世紀初，該書才再版，這甚至被有些人說成是文化出版界的一個大事件。在新出版的《廢都》中，1993版中惹人浮想聯翩的“□□□□（此處作者刪去××字）”，經由賈平凹本人同意，改為省略號。與之前相比，這版《廢都》在半年內的銷量約20萬冊，用作家出版社社長何建明的話來說“是個既不錯又平常的銷售量，這就是成熟了的中國對一部文學作品的認知水平”。

據悉，此次小說英文版翻譯的《廢都》是以1993年出版的《廢都》為藍本，“□□□□”也將被保留。

感悟人性、體會語言之美、直追《紅樓夢》

據賈平凹后來回憶，在他最困難的那年，季羨林先生曾經做出過這樣的預言：“《廢都》20年后將大放光彩。”20年過去了，現實正像季羨林先生所言，當初《廢都》中所預言的很多事情，已經真真切切地發生過了，而那種深層次的迷茫和浮躁，也正是時下不少人的心態。

其實，除卻《廢都》的預見性，僅僅是站在文化評論的角度，業界贊賞者也是非常眾多的。曾任西安市作家協會副主席董子竹曾贊其為“人類文化精英求索人性底蘊的‘離騷’”，而書中“每一次性描寫都是人性的一次大拼搏，都是人類本有功能的大曝光，都是人性的一次大悖論，既是人性的大升華也是人性的大墮落”。

同時，賈平凹在《廢都》中展現出的人物刻畫功力、已經達到美學高度的語言和意向組合也歷來被稱道———庄之蝶，表面上不喜歡拘束、洒脫、學識淵博，然而，古城牆夜裡的塤聲訴說著他內心深處無處化解的孤獨———陝西省作家協會副主席就曾以“純美”一詞來形容《廢都》的語言之美。

作家、文藝批評家蔣泥則稱：“假如不計較人物的真與偽，單就語言、景物描寫和作者對女性人物局部的動作、心理上的體察、感覺論，可以直追《紅樓夢》，是典型的明清白話文。”通篇白描但話裡有話，好得沒法翻譯

《廢都》英文版完成的消息一經公布，很多老讀者都開始分享自己當年讀《廢都》的經歷，其中自然少不了回憶《廢都》一書難求的盛況和那些惹人聯想的“□□□□”，但更多的忠實讀者，還是更願意分享《廢都》的吸引力之所在。

除了故事性和彌漫其中的頹廢，小说所描寫的那種繁雜的世俗生活細節也是讀者津津樂道的對象。在談到《廢都》的語言之美時，有網友用“好得沒法翻譯，是一種純正端庄、含英咀華的漢語之美”來形容，而對於當時出位的性描寫，網友覺得“現今看來只是平常，晚八點的電視劇隨便一部，其台詞都要‘很黃很暴力’得多”。

《廢都》因性描寫被爭議已經是過去時了，當年爭論的焦點在今天甚至已經難以成為宣傳的噱頭。但是，還是有很多人忘不了這個從喧囂走向衰敗和悲涼的故事。
