李平沤：独自翻译巨著《卢梭全集》

李平沤

李平沤，对外经济贸易大学[微博]外语学院退休教师。1924年3月16日生，四川仁寿县人。从1964年8月到对外经贸大学任法文教员，到1995年7月退休。

为人师表的李平沤，既有师者的严谨，又有学者的包容。在教学岗位上，李平沤十分严格和负责。他常常说，外语学习最重要的就是打牢基础。一个字，一个词，都是学习的重点。同时，他也十分注重师生间的互动，为了让学生能够扎扎实实地掌握基本知识，李平沤曾经用了两个小时的时间讲解一个感叹词，直到所有的学生都理解和学会。正是这种坚持与执着，李平沤在教学期间一边承担繁重的教学任务，最多时一天要上8节课，一边每天坚持翻译工作。

高龄的李平沤并不熟悉电脑操作，他的全部著作都是手稿完成。李平沤对手稿写作情有独钟，因为每次校对都是对手稿的一次细致的修改。但是，手稿写作效率较低，为了尽善尽美完成翻译工作，李平沤在青年时期就养成了“夜读”的习惯。只有当夜深人静时，李平沤才能够排除外界的干扰，静下心来翻译和思考。直至耄耋之年，李平沤仍保持着夜里两点就寝的习惯。“春蚕到死丝方尽，蜡炬成灰泪始干。”李平沤说，对外经济贸易大学近些年发展迅速，自己最大的遗憾就是在1995年退休后，不能在教学岗位上继续为学校的教育事业发展贡献力量。唯有尽心竭力多译书、译好书，在身体条件允许的条件下发挥余热，为学术界和读者们带来更多有益的著作。正是对工作的热爱和对学术的追求，几十年如一日地在书桌前钻研与思索，成就了李平沤桃李满天下的教育事业和硕果累累的翻译事业。

独自翻译巨著《卢梭全集》

2012年正值伟大的启蒙运动思想家卢梭诞辰300周年之际，李平沤教授翻译的国内规模最大、品种最全的《卢梭全集》由商务印书馆结集出版。虽已88岁高龄，李平沤教授仍精神矍铄，思维敏捷，谈吐风雅幽默。自1956年于北京大学[微博]西方语言文学系法语专业毕业后，李平沤就开始着手卢梭论著的翻译工作。1960年起正式翻译《爱弥儿》，经历十余年文革后，1978年才正式出版。至2011年，《爱弥儿》一书已第21次印刷。

《卢梭全集》分9卷。由于卷数过多，全集依照不同主题分类，即：第一卷至第三卷是卢梭的自传类作品；第四卷至第五卷是政治经济类作品；第六卷至第七卷是教育文化类作品；第八卷至第九卷是文学艺术类作品。

除第八卷是与北京外国语大学[微博]何三雅教授合译外，其余均为李平沤凭借一己之力完成。翻译《卢梭全集》的困难在于，一是涉及面很广，卢梭的著作涵盖包括植物学、语言学、法学、宗教学、教育学、哲学等多个领域的知识；二是语种太多，卢梭原著为法文写作，其中穿插着拉丁文、希腊文、意大利文等其他语种。面对卷帙浩繁的学科著作和多语种写作，李平沤遇到难处时常常要向专业学者请教，甚至不惜打越洋电话到巴黎咨询。尽管翻译过程艰辛，李平沤却始终坚信，卢梭思想和著作对中国具有不可替代的现实意义。卢梭思想内在的革命性和深刻性对法国大革命和现代革命都具有深刻的意义，而他在教育学的观念——自然主义，也深深地影响了现代教育理论。《爱弥儿》一书印刷了21次，在台湾等其他地区和国家出版了多个版本，影响深远。

李平沤说，卢梭的身世极其困苦坎坷，由于观念超前，卢梭思想生前并不被时人接受，直到去世后，他的思想才逐渐被世人认知。但是，究其一生，卢梭并没因为被世俗摒弃而放弃对知识的渴望和对真理的追求。

李平沤最爱卢梭的一句名言：“我要把我的一生献给真理。”这也正是李平沤自己的人生追求。
