挑战翻译界难啃“硬骨头”

日前，美国著名作家、诺贝尔文学奖热门人选科马克·麦卡锡的代表作《血色子午线》首部中文版由重庆出版社推出。

麦卡锡是美国公认的伟大小说家、剧作家，“美国笔会终身成就奖 ”获得者。《血色子午线》是他西部小说的代表作品。此书已出版近三十年，中文版由于译介难度太大而一直无人问津。此版本的推出填补了这项空白，让国内读者一饱“眼”福。

对于我国读者来说，最熟悉的麦卡锡著作就是《老无所依》，这部小说因科恩兄弟导演的同名电影而广为人知，该影片于2008年获得4项奥斯卡金像奖。另外，全球读者熟悉的小说著作“边境三部曲”（《天下骏马》、《穿越》、《平原上的城市》）系列曾荣膺美国国家图书奖和国家书评奖。小说《路》曾获得美国普利策最佳小说奖、英国布莱克文学奖等。

《血色子午线》出版于1985年，要说它是麦卡锡最伟大的作品，恐怕鲜有争议。这本书被誉为“美国真正的末世预言小说”，在文学评论界声望崇高，是奠定麦卡锡现代文学大师地位的作品。小说讲述了19世纪50年代的美墨边境，一个自幼丧母的少年进入墨西哥后受雇于奇瓦瓦州州长的“头皮猎人”队伍，由此进入噩梦般的驱赶和屠杀印第安人的故事，情节和场景穿插于野蛮暴力和田园诗情之间，被评论家称为“地狱与天堂的交响曲”。

对于很多英语文学读者来说，《血色子午线》是块难啃的硬骨头。许多读者认为，要认真读完此书需要非凡的体力和忍受力。对此，本书的译者冯伟谈到，书中涉及历史、文学、哲学、神话等多种学科，查证工作量很大，麦卡锡独特怪异的遣词造句风格和语义多样性使得作品中出现很多生僻语言，这些都给翻译工作带来很大的难度。

该书的策划人、北京华章同人文化传播有限公司外国文学出版中心主任张慧哲在接受本报采访时说，由于注重文学的经典性和影响力，公司选择了这样一本挑战性颇高的图书来出版，秉承了公司“重现经典”书系的一贯标准，是一项高难度的考验。译者和校对者全身心投入这场挑战中，最终，历时八个多月的反复译校和三个月的编审之后，终于交上了这份“答卷”，呈现给中国的读者。当然，它不是尽善尽美，但无论成功或失败，都将由大家来进行检验。
