美媒：莫言效应推动西方翻译出版中国小说

外媒称，尽管中国如今已是世界上第二大经济体，中国作家在国外却鲜为人知，也很少参加全球性对话。纽约出版商人查德·波斯特透露，2012年，美国出版商购买了453本外国作品的翻译权，仅占美国出版作品总数的3%。

据美国《彭博商业周刊》7月18日报道，在这些作品中，仅有16本是最早在中国出版的。波斯特说，英国的情况也大致相同。他表示：“中国拥有世界上规模最大的读者群，但我们对中国文学接触很少。”

然而，他对翻译自中文的文学作品在美国的未来前景感到乐观。波斯特说：“人们对中国越来越熟悉。提高书的销量不再需要借助于描绘中国的异域风情和荒唐故事了。”

报道说，2012年秋天，因魔幻现实主义而闻名于世的中国小说家莫言赢得了诺贝尔文学奖，这使得全球目光开始关注中国作家。

加利福尼亚大学欧文分校历史学家、《21世纪的中国》一书的作者杰弗里·瓦瑟施特伦说，在课堂上，他开始越来越多地介绍中国现代小说。

最近，美国亚马逊网站推出了一个名为Amazon Crossing的新项目，翻译并以电子书形式销售外文书籍。2013年3月，该项目出版了第一本译自中文的作品，畅销书作家徐磊的《大漠苍狼：绝地勘探》。

报道指出，在物色中国新锐作品方面最为积极的一家出版社，是刚刚与兰登书屋合并的企鹅出版集团。该公司翻译出版的一些中国小说，例如作家盛可以创作的讲述农民工生活的小说《北妹》，在澳大利亚这样的英语世界里获得好评。企鹅出版集团中国公司总经理乔·拉斯比说：“澳大利亚日益增加的亚洲元素意味着该国对中国作家的兴趣越来越浓厚。”
