李继宏翻译让人“死活读不下去”的名著《瓦尔登湖》

今年初，《小王子》还未上市就在豆瓣网引发近千网友打出低分，此事件并没有让该书翻译李继宏却步，到今年5月，他翻译的《小王子》已经荣登当当网“小王子”搜索目录下的第一名。昨日，李继宏携其年内的第五本译著《瓦尔登湖》亮相上海，并放话：“总而言之，这本书要求读者接受过良好的教育。”
万字导读领读《瓦尔登湖》
经典不易读却影响深远
《瓦尔登湖》是美国作家梭罗独居瓦尔登湖畔的记录，描绘了他两年多时间里的所见、所闻和所思。书中提及的动物和植物多达上千种，读起来却不像普通博物志那样枯燥，而是充满了趣味。
和之前的李继宏版世界名著一样，《瓦尔登湖》也有长达一万多字的导读：详细介绍了作者梭罗的生平和当时的写作环境，更有《瓦尔登湖》在不同时期得到的不同待遇—从一本仅几百册销量的图书到与圣经同时入选“塑造读者人生的25部经典”之一的全过程。
李继宏在与读者分享翻译过程时提到，“我在《瓦尔登湖》的导读分析这本书刚出版时不太受欢迎的原因，我写了这么一句话：‘总而言之，这本书要求读者接受过良好的教育。但在1860年，全美国只有241所大学，能够顺畅读完《瓦尔登湖》的人应该说是很少的。’读者看到这里，可能只是看一下就过去了，但为了弄清楚1860年美国到底有多少所大学，我翻阅了整整两本美国高等教育史的专著。现在打开我翻译的《瓦尔登湖》，你可以看到里面有1083个注释，梭罗在书里面的每一句引文，我都给他找到了出处。哪一段话，曾经出现在他哪一天的日记里，或者哪一篇文章里，我也都在注释里写清楚。”
很多人说，把《瓦尔登湖》真正带到中国读者面前的人是海子。当年海子离世时，随身携带的四本书里就有梭罗的这本《瓦尔登湖》。自此，中国的读者开始以一种探究的心态阅读这本书。
然而在浩如烟海的名著世界里，《瓦尔登湖》曾被网络热议为让人“死活读不下去”的名著之一。在出版方果麦文化传媒发起的关于此书的讨论中，一位名为孑客jack的网友说：“我一直觉得梭罗是美国版的陶渊明，有智慧有勇气。现在的世代，大家或多或少都有些混世的小聪明，可往往被一叶障目，忘记了生命中真正重要的东西。其实，不少人都看到了这点。但是，却缺乏冲破现实的勇气。这是一个问题，一个永远都会横亘在我们所有人面前的问题……”
对此，李继宏表示：在今天的中国，有太多的人，为了一日三餐或者三房两厅，过着奔波劳碌、忧心如焚的日子；也许还有同样多的人，他们去澳洲旅游，去西藏朝圣，去欧洲购物，花3000块钱吃一顿饭或者做一次头发，却依然感到空虚和痛苦。但生活其实不必如此。这本《瓦尔登湖》能够让你明白这个道理。
