中医药文化翻译错漏多：将“龙骨”译为“龙的骨头”

不久前，国际著名中医翻译学者、来自英国的魏廼杰博士在中国参加研讨会时发现，和国内学者关于中医药的英语表达，有很多都对不上，他认为，中国的中医药成果要在国际医药与人文领域发挥持续影响力，首先需要解决的关键问题就是“如何让世界能够看懂听懂中医药”。中华中医药学会翻译分会秘书长、上海中医药大学外语教学中心主任丁年青教授对这一看法十分认同，他说，现在有越来越多的国外学者参与中医药术语翻译辞典和外文版中医经典著作的编写，而且国外学者翻译的书籍占据了主要市 “中医药科技与文化的进一步推广，急需培养具有较高专业外语水平的国际中医药人才，这攸关中医药文化软实力和话语权。”

中医药蕴含的文化内涵该怎么翻译

据介绍，东南亚、东北亚国家长期在世界卫生组织传统医学部门中占据主流，导致我国在中医药标准化制定方面长期缺乏话语权。

谈及中医药科技、文化的推广，必然会涉及到中医术语翻译及标准化的问题。由于深受中国传统哲学及思维方式的影响，中医术语往往蕴含深厚的中国文化内涵，若片面追求文字的对应，不假思索地直译，会导致读者如坠云端、不知所云，如将“龙骨”译为“dragon bone”——事实上，“龙骨”只是一种入药的化石，并非龙的骨头；将“齿痕舌”译为“teeth-printed tongue”——其实“齿痕舌”只是一种植物的名称，并非“牙齿咬过的舌头”；将“失笑散”译为“powder for lost smiles”——其实“失笑散”只是因为这味药效果太好了，医生用了以后总是情不自禁地笑了……

如何用国际通用的语言传递富含中国传统文化内涵的中医学理论，是中医药实现国际化首先要突破的难题。就拿术语翻译来说，从以往的做法来看，术语翻译大都以一般经验性共识为主，或单纯用拉丁语或汉语拼音来代替。这种做法从某种程度上规避了一些争论和不确定性，但中医内涵方面的遗失则是不可避免的。当前中医术语翻译就有符号化的倾向，魏廼杰博士在一次中医国际化的研讨上问到：“当我们把中医术语‘风火眼’译为英语中的‘急性结膜炎’时，原本中国传统医药中的文化到底到哪里去了？”

实际上，传统文化在中医药翻译中的体现，是目前最难做到的。比如，按照WHO的统一规定，所有的植物在国际上的通用名都是拉丁文。黄芪、柴胡等这些中药名，因为都是植物，如果按照WHO的规定，只能用拉丁文。事实却是，这样的翻译连外国专家都看不懂。反而用拼音却能让国际中医药学界的学者都能够听懂。但如果单纯地使用拼音，却又使其中的文化内涵难以再现。

中医药国际化急需复合型团队人才

上海中医药大学副校长胡鸿毅教授称，中医不同于西医之处，在于它是人文医学，而非纯粹的科技产物。目前的中医外语从业者大部分为英语专业出身或中医专业出身，精通二者的复合型中医人才非常缺乏。

事实上，中医和外语两门学科都需要大量的时间和精力的投入，而两者的融会贯通更需要时间和精力。现在中医英语虽然已经是一门学科了，但是要使所有从事中医工作的人都能够熟悉或者使用好，还需要很长的时间。据业内的学者称，上海中医药大学从2001年起开设长学制中医学专业针灸推拿方向英语特色班，培养复合型中医药人才，但是目前人才的数量仍然很少，而且一些成熟人才也出现流往国外的现象。

据悉，中医大近年来加强了中医外语与其它学科的有效整合，组建了中医外语学科团队，不断加强中医英语学科研究生人才培养。目前招生方向涉及中医英语语法与翻译、中医英语临床应用、中医典籍英译及跨文化交流等。但是中医外语翻译研究是一个多学科的综合问题，而且也有成果应用与转化的问题。为此，一些学者正在酝酿开展相关中医外语的规范化培训，并且在国家中医药管理局中医师资格认证中心的支持下，依托中国中医药学会翻译分会优势，开展相关考试研究，希望能够早日培养出熟练掌握语言工具的中医人才，甚至是能够掌握国际话语权的中医药学者，进而推动中医药国际化进程。

中医大有关负责人称，虽然已经开展了很长时间中医术语和专著翻译的方法学研究，但是目前从事这一研究的学者仍然是国内的“小众”。“要培养出真正能够走向国际的中医药人才，实现中医药翻译标准化还需时日。”
