翻译家李家真：新译文学经典要对得起读者

《福尔摩斯》系列小说可谓是开辟了侦探小说史上“黄金时代”的不朽经典。一百多年来被译成57种文字，风靡全世界，是一部永远的文学经典。小说成功地塑造了智慧和正义化身的福尔摩斯和平凡之中孕育非凡品质的华生。两位英雄在真实与虚构交融的世界里，为大家展开了一幅维多利亚时代英国的风情画。

近日，外研社出版的《新译福尔摩斯探案全集(汉英双语版)》面世。4月21日，此版书译者李家真先生与读者分享了翻译背后的故事。以下是李家真的演讲内容节选：

我从少年时代便深爱福尔摩斯系列小说，后来又曾反复阅读原著。出于对人物形象、作品时代和典雅文字的热爱，决定翻译这部卷帙浩繁的巨著。

目前，《福尔摩斯》系列版本很多，名著多几个译本并不是坏事，但一定要保持严谨的学术态度，首先要对得起作者，其次要对得起读者。现在中西方交流频繁，相比以前的译者，当代译者对西方有了更多的知识和判断力，具有重译的优势。不过，当代译者的自身修养和态度有所欠缺，则需要提高。

翻译这版《福尔摩斯》时，故事中涉及大量的社会背景、历史文化和名物风俗，我尽量注重对历史细节的翻译，务求真实地呈现原作韵味及时代风貌，因为甚至是细小的历史名词的变化也会反映出当时独特的历史风貌。翻译并不是创作，译者一定要尊重原著，作者，保持职业操守，否则不严谨的翻译会造成社会对该作品甚至是当时社会的误解。

涉及到翻译方法，我使用现代语文翻译故事主题，同时运用简易的文言翻译书中的一些正式文字，让读者能够在阅读时感受维多利亚时代的古典气息。还为译文附上了一千余条背景注释，以便读者在欣赏作品的同时，充分理解作品的文化含义。
