80后翻译家李继宏重译经典名著

80后翻译家李继宏立下宏愿，要挑战过去的翻译名家，重译经典名著。他认为过去翻译名著的表达方式让人产生极大的阅读障碍。2013年1月，李继宏的“重译经典”头四部《小王子》、《老人与海》、《了不起的盖茨比》和《动物农场》上市，8月，他翻译的《瓦尔登湖》在上海书展首发推出。
李继宏，生于1980年。24岁开始翻译，已出版二十多部译作，其中包括畅销译作《追风筝的人》、《灿烂千阳》、《与神对话》等。2011年开始重新翻译世界名著系列的“重译经典”计划。该计划要重新翻译20种外国名著，目前已翻译出版《小王子》、《老人与海》、《动物农场》、《了不起的盖茨比》、《瓦尔登湖》。接下来，他还将翻译《傲慢与偏见》、《简爱》、《呼啸山庄》、《鲁滨逊漂流记》、《哈姆雷特》、《双城记》等。

“出版日期决定了它们是过时的”
2007年李继宏产生重新翻译外国名著的想法，“从前的译者，限于时代和自身的条件，没有办法为读者提供合格的译本；但在21世纪的今天，我们有条件去全面地、正确地、精彩地译介外国名著。”在认真筹备几年之后，2011年李继宏开始行动。
在李继宏翻译的《小王子》在出版之前，因为被一些人视为“太狂妄”的“迄今为止最优秀译本”的宣传语，还曾引发一场不小的争议。8月18日，李继宏的最新译著《瓦尔登湖》亮相上海书展时，“159年来，最好的《瓦尔登湖》中文译本”宣传语依然赫然在目。
李继宏现身上海书展，在一场名为《经典何以需要新译》的演讲中，李继宏从社会变迁的角度详细解读了为何经典需要重译的道理。
在李继宏看来，目前市面上流行的名著译本，大多数是在上个世纪八十年代或以前翻译的，比如说徐迟翻译的《瓦尔登湖》在1949年就出版了，傅惟慈翻译的《月亮与六便士》，第一次出版是在1981年，吴劳翻译的《老人与海》，上海图书馆收藏着1987年的版本。“这些名著的出版日期决定了它们是过时的，是错漏百出的，是不符合这个时代需要的。”
李继宏说，主要原因不在译者本身，而是时代的限制。目前市面上流行的译本，大多数是上世纪80年代或以前翻译的，比如说1949年翻译的《瓦尔登湖》，还有1981年出版的《月亮与六便士》，上海图书馆收藏着1987年的版本。这些名著的出版日期决定了它们是过时的，是错漏百出的。
值得一提的是，李继宏的翻译版本，销量不俗。据策划出版方相关负责人瞿洪斌介绍，“《小王子》的各种中文译本中，目前销量最大的就是李继宏翻译的版本。《老人与海》卖得最好的也是李继宏的译本。”

“科技进步，给文学研究带来了新变化”
李继宏认为，现在是信息社会，互联网的兴起极大地改善了文学翻译的生产条件，“科技进步，给文学研究带来了新变化”。李继宏举例说，傅雷在1964年8月7日写给人民文学出版社总编室的信里提到：“译文尚有一小部分疑问，正驰书巴黎询问专家。”按照当时中国跟法国的通信条件，一来一去要几个月。现在译者写电子邮件去向作者咨询，很可能几分钟就得到回复。所以这种方法在以前是很难行得通的。查阅参考资料呢，够查阅的资料非常有限，“傅雷翻译过好几本巴尔扎克的书，但他居然连巴尔扎克全集都没有。”
李继宏坦言，自己敢说自己的译本是“目前最优秀版本”，跟他身处的便利时代有关，“我们生活在信息共享的时代，有足够的条件、工具，去动用所有的资源，为我所用”，“《瓦尔登湖》这本书，放在几年前，我是没法翻出现在这个译本的。因为几年前谷歌图书还没有上线，我不可能看得到梭罗引用过那么多在17世纪、18世纪出版的英文书和法文书。三十年前、五十年前做更不可能做好，因为那些译者压根不可能看懂这本书。除了文字资料，还有海量的多媒体资源可以利用。比如今天翻译《月亮与六便士》，不太可能犯以前的译者的错误：教皇因诺森特十世翻译成“天真的X”，因为他只要上谷歌检索Innocent X，就能看到维拉斯凯兹那幅名画。”
此外，李继宏还提到，语言是活的，变化很快，在符合语言规范的前提下，你可以有创新。否则，我们还停留在石器时代。”李继宏最后强调，“我想要传达的理念是，有永恒的原著，但没有永恒的译著。所有外国名著的译本，都受到时代的限制，时代的进步呼唤全新的译本。”

“名家译稿也被修得‘触目惊心’
李继宏还表示，不要过于迷信翻译界名家，他透露自己曾在出版社工作的时间总共有两年，当过编辑室主任和内容总监，这让他有机会了解到一些所谓翻译名家的真实水平，“看到所谓的名家译稿，被编辑修改得密密麻麻，简直触目惊心。”
在李继宏看来，有些名家的外语水平被高估了，“说起来，在‘民国’时期接受教育那批人，用今天的标准来看，这些人的外文水平都很有限。比如有个人被神化得很厉害，据传他精通十几门外语。他到底精通几门外语我不知道，但我知道他的英文水平很低，因为他发表过两篇英语论文，Han Yü and The Tang Novel（韩愈和唐代小说）和 The Shun-Tsung Shih-Lu and The Hsu Hsuan-Kuai Lu（《顺宗实录》和《续玄怪录》），分别刊载于《哈佛亚洲研究丛刊》第1卷第1期和第3卷第1期。不知道的人可能会被唬住，觉得他好厉害哦。但我正好看过这两篇文章，“韩愈和唐代小说”只有四页，“《顺宗实录》和《续玄怪录》”有七页，是两篇介绍性的短文，笔法非常幼稚，跟现在的大学生作文差不多。但这些人，在以前已经算外语水平很高了。”
