《公共场所英译指示牌“洋泾浜”》后续

本报5月10日第三版刊登《公共场所英译指示牌“洋泾浜”》之后，义乌口腔医院楼院长给记者打来电话，就外教Phil和Danny提出的“STOMATOLOGICAL(口腔学的)一词过于专业看不懂”的疑问进行了解释。

“很高兴在义乌的老外能关注我们医院的英文翻译问题。”楼院长说，“首先，为了方便老外，其实我们也在医院外墙上挂了更容易让老外理解的YIWUDENTALHOSPITAL的翻译版本。

第二，需要注意的是，我们国内的口腔医院和西方国家的牙医诊所是两个不同的概念。”楼院长说，口腔医院的诊疗范围要大于牙医诊所：牙医诊所主要诊疗牙齿方面的疾病，而口腔医院除了牙科外，还有口腔颌面外科等科室，还要治疗舌、咽等口腔器官以及颈部等身体器官的相关疾病。

楼院长说，他们医院在进行“义乌口腔医院”的英文翻译时，不仅查阅了国际上关于口腔医院的英文说法，并就其英译版本咨询了国内的英语从业人士，最终才确定使用STOMATOLOGICAL这一词汇。

Phil在知晓楼院长的回馈后表示，他对楼院长的解释表示理解。“如果口腔医院需要通俗的英译版本，不妨考虑‘YIWUDENTALANDORALSURGERYHOSPITAL’的说法。”(注：DENTALANDORALSURGERY是“牙科以及口腔外科”的意思)
