有感于一直以来见到的大陆翻译工作者在经济和与出版社谈判等方面的尴尬处境而发。
回答
说一下日本的情况(不是业内人士,说点表面认识)。
1. 提供一个专业翻译公司雇员的例子:
收入和其他职业属同一水平。根据专业领域不同,会略有增减,比如法律翻译、机械加工专业翻译等等。公司业绩好,会有浮升。属于发不了财,也饿不死人那种。
当然,不能拿计件工资,不能自己挑选爱翻的内容。业余可以接点私活。
2. 再提供一个自由撰稿人(自由译者)收入例子:
拿计件工资。具体来说,市场价为一页稿纸(400字。目标文字)3000日元,一篇成稿2万字的文章可以拿到15万日元报酬,扣完税13.5万左右。当月交稿,下个月付款,出版社还都比较守信。
如果没有固定的稿约,收入也是相当不稳定的。所以不少人采用的是在某家人才派遣公司登记、但不拿固定工资的形式,以获取足够的工作资源。
3. “翻译家”级别的……那就不知道了。

我接触过德国的自由译者,收入水平和如何接活儿先不说,这与译者本人的翻译速度和能力有关,你很难得出一个平均收入来,但可以说自由译者的收入相比其他职业高不到哪里去。
但是德国有很不错的翻译行业协会(或者说工会)BDÜ

。除了总舵之外,还有按照领域划分的展会翻译、机械翻译分舵或是按照地区划分的分舵。
翻译行业协会能够提供什么呢?
在交纳会费,我记得2008年我看到的是100~200欧之间,有几个不同的等级,大致提供下面的服务:
如何找到组织?除了按照官网上面的信息找上门。这样的协会通常会在法兰克福书展、莱比锡书展等与出版和翻译相关的论坛上出现,为译者提供资讯和入会服务。我就曾经上前问过,呃,明显需要在德国居住和纳税的译者才行……
另外,德国的其他自由职业者如记者、摄影师等也都有类似协会。
